Refinement and 0.3.4 Prep

It’s been a minute since I had a new release. I changed the project a fair amount since the last update, but I don’t think it’s enough to update the glide path. Consider this a bit of a taste for the potential changes in the future for 0.3.4! I was supposed to do more last month, but I prioritized most of my time writing the demo’s story which I am very proud to finish. I’m going to have Sirdiesalot help revise it first before moving forward.

While I wait for his input, I plan on 0.3.4 having the UI and textures reworked alongside refining the animations a tad bit. I also plan on making more animations for the future. Certain assets still have that “alpha-stage roughness” I want to smooth out such as the campfire’s fire texture. Even though I added a pause menu animation, certain UI elements feel barebone, so I need to think things through on that front.

One minor change I’m proud to implement is the new sounds for the demo weapons, but I’m not keeping all of these sounds for myself. You can download an entire sound pack I recorded for this project and use them in your own projects at https://f8studios.itch.io/snakes-authentic-gun-sounds! I used real firearms I own for these sounds, so they’re as authentic as it gets.

I’m going to guestimate two more weeks until 0.3.4 is out, but I’ll push it to itch if I get it done earlier.

Patch Notes:

  • Changed the demo guns audio
  • Implemented muzzle flash particles
    • Amount of emissions is based on firing mode
  • Implemented hitmarkers
    • Amount of emissions is based on firing mode too
  • Updated demo scene textures to be more presentation-friendly
  • Added a pause transition animation
    • Very likely to be placeholder but if not it looks fine as is
  • Bugfix: Fixed interactable arrows showing when game is paused
    • This apparently was in the demo for awhile, and it obstructed the pause menu
