Who Turned the Radio On? (Battle Music 0.3.3)

What’s rocking?

I would like to first start with saying that sound design can make or break a project’s entire feel, memorability, and more. When I first put the UI sounds in, I knew some of them may serve as a placeholder or may be tweaked to better capture the feel. I mean, it sounds alright, but getting the feel through a few UI sounds is incredibly difficult. I decided it might be easier to create the first track to know what instruments I wanted, create that rock/fantasy combo, and I needed to get started on that anyways!

Here's What This Means

This update is small in content-wise, but it’s big when looking at the long-term (I think that might be becoming a buzzword, but the long-term effects are showing now with increasing content). As always, there may still be some slight tweaks in the audio here and there. I may also need to clean up the combat music as well to better refine the tone.

As shown on the glide path, I’m now going to start on some graphical reworks while also working on some new assets. This is also on top of making more music for the game. It sounds like a lot for one person to do, but hear me out.

Going Forward

Here’s how I’m thinking about going about this. I’m going to make another track and release it as 0.3.3-a while simultaneously working on 0.3.4. I already know what instruments, composition techniques, and style I’m going for, so pumping out music may be done first for the debug room. For the graphical reworks, the UI could use a little more personality, and certain textures such as the shopkeeping desk looks way too rough. What this means is I’m going to be working on music, graphics, and the final demo all at once. It sounds like a lot, but the first two add to the latter significantly. The variety also helps with preventing burnout.

Here’s what to expect throughout the week!

  • A “probable” asset creation stream or two (Might be music-related)

Here’s what to expect next week or the week after!

  • A new addition to the soundtrack
  • UI Rework (Possibly, or maybe a cleanup)
  • Some texture reworks
  • Bugfixing

Changelog:

  • Added combat music
  • Changed some UI sounds
    • Ex: Lowered upper EQ on Select Hover.mp3
