Combining Shooters and Turn-Based Combat (0.2.0 Release Date Too!)
What's rocking?
Nothing feels better than fully implementing a major feature for something you put your heart in. For Soldiers' Descent, this is combining turn-based fighting with ammo management like you would with a shooter. The video here shows a lot of what's here and how it works, but what isn't shown is the item, running, and guarding buttons. Running and guarding are self-explanatory, and the item button opens up the inventory to swap weapons, ammo, heal, etc.
Different weapon systems require equipping different ammo calibers which pull from the inventory's ammo quantities. What's shown here is that all party members are using the same ammo caliber, so they all take from that ammo's inventory quantity. I'm honestly surprised such a system works in a turn-based design! Oh, and certain weapon systems have different firing modes. A bolt action can only shoot once, but a semi-auto can shoot multiple times in the same turn. It's not added yet, but beyond a single shot will incur an accuracy penalty based on that gun's accuracy stat.
With that being said, you can play a more polished version of this next week on 2/12/2022! Follow my Twitter for more specific news, or add Soldiers' Descent to your collection and be ready for release! Any feedback is much appreciated. Thank you, and have a great day!
